Personal Protection Order vs Domestic Violence Order – What is the difference?
Procedurally they are both the same. The main distinct difference is whether you and the offender have had (or currently still have) a domestic relationship. This includes family members, roommates, past or present romantic partners etc. If you have had or currently have a domestic relationship, you will need to apply for a Domestic Violence Protection Order.
If the person is a neighbour or stranger or friend, you will need to apply for a Personal Protection Order. The distinction is important as it can prevent you from applying for the wrong order.
